Marie-France Mill

Marie-France Mill is a former Belgian judoka . She won two gold, two silver and four bronze medals at European championships.

Athletic career

Marie-France Mill started in the light middleweight division, the weight class up to 61 kilograms. In 1975 official European championships for women were held for the first time. At the competitions in Munich Mill reached the finals and was defeated by Martine Rottier from France . The following year she won a bronze medal at the European Championships in Vienna .

From 1977 Mill joined the middleweight division, the weight class up to 66 kilograms. At the European Championships in 1977 in Arlon, Belgium, she lost to the German Gabriele Czerwinski in the final . A year later at the European Championships in Cologne Mill won two bronze medals: in the middleweight division and in the open class. 1979 in Kerkrade Mill won her first European middleweight title with a final victory over the British Maureen Bennett . In March 1980 Mill won a bronze medal at the European Championships in Udine . At the end of November 1980, the first World Championships for women took place in New York City . Mill lost to the British Dawn Netherwood in the quarterfinals . In the battle for bronze, she lost to Christine Penick from the United States. In March 1981 at the European Championships in Madrid Mill won her last international medal when she defeated the German Alexandra Schreiber in the final .
