Martine Rottier

Martine Rottier (born June 12, 1955 ) is a former French judoka . She won a world title and was three times European champion.

Athletic career

Martine Rottier fought in the light middleweight division, the weight class up to 61 kilograms. In 1974 French judo championships for women took place on a test basis, Rottier won in the light middleweight division and in the open class. At the official French championships from 1975 to 1989 Rottier reached the final in the light middleweight division every year except 1986; she won nine times and was second five times. In the open class, she won silver twice and received seven bronze medals.

Martine Rottier won her first international medal in 1975 at the European Championships in Munich, the first ever European Judo Championships for women. Rottier won her final against Marie-France Mill from Belgium . At the European Championships in 1976 in Vienna, she won the final against the Yugoslav Marina Angelović . At the third edition of the European Championships in Arlon in 1977, Martine Rottier lost to the German Ingrid Berg in the semi-finals . With a victory over Yvonne Vringer from the Netherlands, Rottier secured a bronze medal. The following year, Berg and Rottier faced each other in the finals of the 1978 European Championships in Cologne, and Berg won. In 1979 and 1980 Martine Rottier lost in the final of the French championships against Brigitte Deydier , who also took part in the European championships. At the end of November 1980, New York City hosted the first World Judo Championships for women. The French women won a medal in the competitions in each of the eight weight classes. Martine Rottier lost to the Italian Laura Di Toma in the semi-finals , but won a bronze medal by defeating Herta Reiter from Austria.

At the European Championships in Madrid in 1981 and at the European Championships in Oslo in 1982 , Rottier each won a bronze medal. In December 1982 the second world championships took place in Paris . Rottier defeated the German Gabriele Ritschel in her first fight , then in the quarterfinals Chantal Han from the Netherlands. After her semi-final victory over Robin Chapman from the United States, she won the final against the Norwegian Inger Lise Solheim . At the 1983 European Championships in Genoa, Rottier was defeated in the semi-finals by British Ann Hughes , in the battle for bronze she won against Inger Lise Solheim. The following year the European Championships took place in Pirmasens. Rottier won her third title after 1975 and 1976 with a final victory over the German Petra Wahnsiedler . Eight months later at the 1984 World Championships in Vienna, she lost in the quarterfinals to Natasha Hernández from Venezuela. After victories over Ann Hughes and Laura Di Toma, Rottier received a bronze medal. Rottier remained active until 1989 and won the French championship title again in 1988, but did not win international medals after 1984.
