Max Kob (born June 3, 1898 in Munich ; † 1988 ibid.) Was a German football player . He was considered a goalkeeper legend at the time. In the 1926/27 season he took part with the "Lions" in three final rounds of the German football championship and was only eliminated in the semifinals against the eventual German champions 1. FC Nürnberg.

Life

The young Max Kob had been a goalkeeper in the Löwen-Jugend since 1912 and made his debut in the goal of the first team during the 1919/20 season. Max Kob was a goalkeeper at TSV 1860 Munich from 1919 to 1932 . Attempts to poach FC Bayern Munich to court failed. Kob is named in a series of "big names" along with Max Schäfer , Josef Wendl and Alois Pledl from the time when the club became competitive on a national level.

In the 1926/27 season Kob finished in 1860 in the Bavarian regional league under coach Max Breunig after a 2-0 win against FC Wacker Munich in the playoff for second place and therefore took part in the southern German finals of the second. The white-blue team prevailed in front of the Karlsruher FV and won the qualifying game for the third participant from southern Germany for the German championship on April 24 in Pforzheim against FSV Frankfurt again 2-0. The round of 16 was played against FC Schalke 04 at the Rote Erde stadium in Dortmund on May 8th . With 3: 1 Schalke fell by the wayside with Ernst Kuzorra and Fritz Szepan . VfB Leipzig received in the quarter-finals in the Heinrich-Zisch-Stadion in 1860 and reached the semi-finals with a 3-0 win against the men around Eduard Pendorf and Paul Pömpner . That was played on May 29th in Nuremberg on the local ASV-Platz in front of 20,000 spectators against 1. FC Nuremberg. The "Club" prevailed with the offensive series Baptist Reinmann , Georg Hochgesang , Josef Schmitt , Ludwig Wieder and Heinrich Träger 4-1 and also won the final of the German championship on June 12 with 2-0 against Hertha BSC. For Max Kob and team-mates like Eugen Kling , Alois Pledl, Josef Wendl, Josef Hornauer and Ludwig Stiglbauer , it was a great season despite the semi-final defeat.

On October 5, 1930, he suffered a serious injury in the derby that was lost 4-2 against FC Bayern Munich, which then prevented him from taking part in the final round of the 1931 German championship , crowned by the finals.

Kob is listed in legends in white and blue prior to the Petar Radenković era as "the best goalkeeper the Lions have ever had".
