Marien-Magdalenen-Church (Naumburg)
The Marien-Magdalenen-Kirche is a Protestant church in the city of Naumburg in Saxony-Anhalt .
history
The church was founded as a hospital church in the first half of the 12th century, but closed again in 1544. The current building was built in 1712 as a cemetery church. The consecration took place in 1730. From 1752 it was used as a parish church. The church was profaned during the Napoleonic occupation. After the damage had been repaired, the church was consecrated again in 1821 and used for church purposes. In 1901/1902 Karl Memminger restored the building. Another repair took place in 1971.
architecture
Today's church building shows itself in the baroque but simple style. The church has a single nave on a rectangular floor plan and has large arched windows that are located between pilasters . To the west of the ship is a two-story porch serving as an entrance area with a simple facade. Above is a tower with a square floor plan as well as a hood and lantern . Existing extensions on the east side were changed in 1901/1902.
The interior of the church is spanned by a mirrored ceiling with stucco work attributed to the Italian Bernhardo Brentani and completed in 1718. A fresco in the center depicts the Last Judgment . Further frescoes are grouped around it, showing the bliss, Christ, death and heaven and hell. The frescoes were completed by Wilhelm Rössel in 1727 .
The Marientor, a little further north, derives its name from the church.
Furnishing
The pulpit is framed by shell niches and is located on the eastern wall.
A painting showing councilor Christian Kehrbach, who died in 1761, is remarkable .
organ
From 1783 to 1785 the organ was created by Christian Friedrich Poppe on the horseshoe gallery, which was designed in the classical style . In 1869 the organ builder Friedrich Ladegast built a new work into the case. The instrument has not been changed since then. It has 23 stops on two manuals and a pedal.
