The Falkenstein is a 1270 m high mountain in the Falkenstein ridge of the Allgäu Alps in the Pfrontens area ( Ostallgäu district ).
On the mountain there is the Falkenstein castle ruins , which King Ludwig II wanted to convert into a castle.
One has a view of the Vilstal valley below and the peaks of the Tannheimer Group .
The mountain is shown on the coat of arms of the municipality of Pfronten .
Below its summit is the Burghotel Falkenstein and a little deeper the Berghotel Schlossanger Alp. A road leads to the hotels.
Geotope
The Mariengrotte has been designated as a valuable geotope by the Bavarian State Office for the Environment (Geotope number: 777H001).
