The house at Marienplatz 21 in Munich is a residential and commercial building that is registered as a monument in the Bavarian list of monuments. This house is the only surviving house from the development on Marienplatz before the Second World War . A branch of Deutsche Bank , a law firm and medical practices are located in the building.

location

The house is on the south side of the square on the corner where the cattle market meets the square. The south side of the house is on St. Peter's Square opposite St. Peter's Church .

history

In the city ​​model of Munich by Jakob Sandtner (1570) there is a three- to four-storey corner house with two flat cores and a gable facing Marienplatz. In the 19th century it was converted into a five-storey building with arcades on the ground floor. This house was demolished in 1910 and replaced in 1911 by the building that still exists today based on plans by Georg Meister (architect) .

The house is five storeys high and has large arched arcades on the ground floor. The first floor has arched windows, the three other floors have rectangular windows. The narrow side on Marienplatz has four window axes, the long side on Rindermarkt has seven. The four window axes of the three top floors on Marienplatz correspond to three arched windows on the first floor and two arcades on the ground floor. The first floor also has seven arched windows on the long side and five arcades on the ground floor.

The corner of Marienplatz / Rindermarkt is sloping . A natural stone bay extends from the first to the third floor and is closed on the fourth floor by a balcony grille.

There is a narrow inner courtyard on the east side of the building. The stairwell is located between this courtyard and the entrance on the south side of the house opposite St. Peter.
