Marifé de Triana (born September 13, 1936 in Burguillos , Seville as María Felisa Martínez López , † February 16, 2013 in Benalmádena ) was a Spanish copla singer.

Beginnings

She grew up in the Triana district of Seville. When she was twelve, she moved with her family to the Spanish capital, Madrid , to try her luck as a singer. When she was 13 she made her debut on Spanish radio. There she was given the stage name Marifé de Triana. Then she moved through the theater and stages to establish herself as a singer.

She became famous all over Spain with songs by the composer trio Quintero, León and Quiroga . Te he de querer mientras viva , La Loba and Maria de la O were her great successes. Although she often had arguments with Francisco Franco's wife, Franco was very fond of Marifé de Triana. In 1978 she appeared on the Cantares show and was thus on a par with her idols Juana Reina and Estrellita Castro , who also appeared on this show. She was also called the actress of the copla because of her emotional interpretations of the copla andaluza .

Last years in show business

In 1996 Marifé de Triana hosted the TV show Lo que yo te canté , in which she presented young singers from the Copla andaluza , including Joana Jiménez and Diana Navarro , who later became very famous. Famous guests included María Vidal , Juanito Valderrama and Lolita Sevilla . In 2001 she withdrew completely from show business. In 2008 she was a major guest star at the finale of the first season of the TV show Se llama Copla - the winner was Joana Jiménez, who was previously sponsored by her.

On February 16, 2013, the singer died of cancer.
