The Yokohama Marine Tower is a 106.1 meter high former lighthouse , which was inaugurated on January 15, 1961 on the occasion of the 100th birthday of the port of Yokohama . It is a well known tourist destination .
The striking steel lattice tower was called the highest lighthouse in the world for a long time. On December 25, 2006, the beacon was extinguished. The city of Yokohama took over the landmark , rebuilt it and reopened it with a new concept on May 23, 2009.
The first four floors now house a bar , a café , information, a souvenir shop , the Marine Tower Hall for exhibitions and events and a restaurant . The two-storey viewing platform at a height of 94 meters offers an all-round panorama over the old districts of Yokohama and the modern Minato Mirai 21 . When visibility is good, you can see as far as Mount Fuji .
