Naval Section Command West

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Marine Section Command West (MAKdo West) was set up on April 1, 1975 under the name Marine Section Command North Sea . It was a support association of the German Navy with location Wilhelmshaven . In the course of the reorganization of the Navy after reunification, it was renamed the Naval Section Command West on April 1, 1994 and dissolved on January 7, 2003.

Mission and organization

The new North Sea Marine Section Command was formed from the former North Sea Marine Division , which in turn emerged from the first North Sea Marine Section Command . It was initially subordinate to the Navy Support Command and from October 1, 2001 to the Navy Office . Its tasks had been significantly reduced compared to its two predecessor organizations and were essentially limited to the management of logistic facilities in the North Sea area. The management of fleet and telecommunications associations was transferred to the responsibility of other bodies. As a result, the new MAKdo North Sea / West was no longer managed by a flag officer , but by a sea captain .

The MAKdo Nordsee / West was permanently or temporarily subject to the following departments and associations:

The largest German naval base in Wilhelmshaven from the air
  • Others
    • Naval Music Corps North Sea

Changes

Marine Transport Company West

The Marinetransportkompanie West (MTrspKp West) was formed on October 1, 1998 from the 2nd Company of the 2nd Marine Transport Battalion and took over its transport tasks. It was directly subordinate to the Naval Section Command West and was based in Wilhelmshaven. It had a strength of around 80 soldiers and had around 120 vehicles. The company was disbanded on June 30, 2002.

Transitional period and dissolution

Overall, the logistical facilities of the Navy were gradually reduced in size from 1990 and, as part of a Bundeswehr reform from the early 2000s, were for the most part combined in the armed forces base . The navy gave up their depots, dissolved their transport units, but kept the bases.

The naval sector commands were gradually disbanded. In the transition, the Marine Section Command West ran a number of facilities that had previously been subordinate to the other MAKdos. On July 1, 2002 the Naval Section Command West was disbanded and the naval depots were subordinated to the Armed Forces Base (SKB). They were assigned to Air Force Supply Regiment 5 until the new target structure was taken.
