Mario Canori

Mario Canori (born March 15, 1964 in Klagenfurt ) is an Austrian entrepreneur and politician ( FPÖ / BZÖ ). From 2001 to 2006 he was Vice Mayor of Klagenfurt. Since 2007 he has been president of the SK Austria Kärnten soccer club . Canori was also the top candidate of the Freedom Party in the state elections in Carinthia in 2009 , but missed the entry into the state parliament.

Life

Canori was born in Klagenfurt in 1964. He embarked on a career as a real estate agent and later worked for SPAR Austria and as managing director of Migros and Hornbach for the Austrian and Eastern European region. From 1997 he worked as a franchisee for the Austrian market of the Intimissimi brand of the Italian underwear group Calzedonia .

Through his future wife, he met Jörg Haider in the 1980s , who was his best man at Canori's wedding in 1989 . Haider brought Canori into the FPÖ and into the Carinthian state politics, in 1991 Canori moved into the Klagenfurt municipal council . After the municipal council elections in 2001, he took over the post of Vice Mayor and Cultural Advisor of Klagenfurt for the FPÖ under Harald Scheucher . When the BZÖ split off from the FPÖ , Canori initially followed Jörg Haider in 2005. In the following year, however, he resigned his offices in Klagenfurt and announced that he would be leaving politics.

After rumors about the relocation of the Upper Austrian Bundesliga club ASKÖ Pasching to Klagenfurt in 2007, Canori was appointed President of the then governor Jörg Haider as the club that has now been renamed SK Austria Carinthia , although he says he knows nothing about football. After Haider's death, Canori surprisingly switched back to the FPÖ in December 2008, which he justified with the fact that the BZÖ had taken too much of the deceased governor. Furthermore, there were also differences in relation to the party leadership and political support for SK Austria Kärnten. Canori was presented by the FPÖ as the top candidate for the state elections in March. This action met with strong criticism from the BZÖ. In the elections, however, the FPÖ and Canori failed to achieve the goal they had set themselves of becoming the third-strongest force in the Carinthian state parliament with 10–11% . The FPÖ only achieved 3.76% of the votes and failed to pass the 5% hurdle for entry into the state parliament.

Canori is married and has three daughters.
