Mario Fiandri

Mario Fiandri SDB (born December 8, 1947 in Arborea ) is an Italian religious priest and Roman Catholic bishop .

Life

Fiandri had entered the seminary of the Salesians of Don Bosco in Arborea in 1958 . After the novitiate in Lanuvio near Rome , he took the religious vows on August 13, 1969 as a Salesian of Don Bosco. After studying philosophy and theology from 1966 to 1969 at the Pontifical University of the Salesians in Rome, he went to Guatemala as a missionary . After completing his studies there, he was ordained a priest on August 10, 1974 in Arborea . From 1975 to 1978 he was a school councilor at the Philosophical Institute of the Salesians in Guatemala City . From 1978 on he was vicar, then rector of the youth center "Don Bosco" in Managua in Nicaragua . From 1985 to 1989 he was director and in 1990 parish vicar of the parish “Divina Providencia” in Guatemala. From 1991 to 1994 he obtained a license in Biblical Studies at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome. After his return to Guatemala he was pastor of the Don Bosco Shrine in Guatemala from 1994 to 1996. Most recently he was rector of the Salesian Theological Institute in Guatemala since 2004 and taught biblical studies himself as a professor.

On February 10, 2009 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . the Apostolic Vicar of El Petén in Guatemala and titular bishop of Madarsuma . Fiandri received the episcopal ordination on March 21, 2009 by Rodolfo Cardinal Quezada Toruño and as co- consecrators by his confreres Óscar Cardinal Rodríguez Maradiaga SDB and Archbishop Óscar Julio Vian Morales SDB.
