The Areia Branca ( German for White sand , former Indonesian Pasir Putih ) is a beach at the east end of the Bay of Dili . The district of the state capital of East Timor , which adjoins the beach, is named after him. The Areia Branca is located about three kilometers east of the city center of Dilis , in Suco Meti Aut ( administrative office of Cristo Rei ). The white and yellow sandy beach is a popular destination. There are several restaurants and hotels along the coastline. At the east end of the bay at Cape Fatu Cama is the 27 m high statue of Christ by Dili .

Together with its hinterland, which consists of hills with savannah and wetlands, and the coast up to the Ponta Séri Tútun , the Areia Branca forms a wildlife reserve and an Important Bird Area . The eucalyptus tree species ( Eucalyptus alba ) form some small tropical dry forests ( Eucalyptus alba savana ), which are threatened by the gathering of firewood. Together with the areas of Tibar ( Liquiçá municipality ), Tasitolu , Hera and Metinaro (all in Dili municipality ), this region forms a network of small wetlands.
