Mario Filippeschi

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mario Filippeschi (born June 7, 1907 in Montefoscoli near Pisa , † December 25, 1979 in Florence ) was an Italian opera singer (tenor).

Life

Mario Filippeschi was born the fourth child of a peasant family, did not begin to play the clarinet until he was 17, and by chance became aware of his voice (he sang Tuscan songs during his three years of military service). First, however, became a police officer and played the clarinet in a police band.

He began his vocal training from 1930 to 1935 with Vicidomini in Milan , a singing teacher who did not teach his students songs and arias, but only let them sing vocalises and exercises. It was only with Pessina in Milan (1935–1937?) That he began to study games. After a stagione in small Italian towns, he made his debut on July 19, 1937 as Edgardo in Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor at the theater in Colorno near Parma. In the 50s, in addition to engagements on all major stages in the world, he also recorded records and took part in opera and radio productions. In May 1961 he ended his career without giving any reason.

In 1942 in Genoa he married Anna Pucci, the daughter of an industrialist.

classification

On December 23, 1978 his colleague Giacomo Lauri-Volpi wrote in a greeting card: “Avenida Lauri Volpi 5. I remember the wonderful voice that I heard in Valencia in the Rigoletto and in the Pescatori di perle . No voice of today's singer can compare to your voice. Today you would be the king of the tenors (1978!). Take care of yourself and think of your honest admirer, whose name is G. Lauri Volpi, 86 years old. "
