Mario Millo (* 17th May 1955 in Sydney , New South Wales as Mario Daniel Millo ) is an Australian musician , composer and songwriter . Among other things, he composed the music for the movies The Lighthorsemen , Meine Pferde - mein Liebe and PC - Ein Genie auf Pfoten

life and work

Mario Millo was born in Sydney, New South Wales in 1955 to Italian immigrants in Australia. His father taught him to play the mandolin at the age of five and the guitar at the age of eight . At twelve, Millo had his first band called The Menu at Mitchell High School in Blacktown . The menu consisted of: Mario Millo (guitar and vocals), Mark Friedland (drums), Vince Moult (bass) and Brian Nicholls (organ). The band won the 1969 Pepsi Pop Poll at the Battle of the Bands in Sydney Stadium. As a result, they signed a contract with a Sydney music agency and were renamed The Clik . A single called La De Da was released on Festival Records in November 1969. A second single, Mary Mary , was released in March 1970. Coca-Cola and Fanta sponsored the band in a number of television commercials and sent the young band touring Australia and New Zealand, and then split in 1971 Millo toured Europe for half a year and returned to Australia to the reformed band The Clik in early 1972. Now with Garry Adams on lead guitar, Doug Bligh on drums (both ex-Galadriel) and Phil Cogan on bass again in October 1973. Millo then joined the symphonic rock group Sebastian Hardie, whose debut album Four Moments (1975) reached number 13 on the Australian Kent Music Report A. lbums charts. Millo then went on to a solo career, composing film and television soundtracks and scores. In 1978 he worked with Jon English on the soundtrack for the television series Against the Wind . A single called Six Ribbons was released. Both the album and the single reached top 10 spots on the corresponding Kent Music Report charts. The series ran internationally. As Mot alla vindar , the single was best known in 1980 in Scandinavia , where the album and the single reached number 1 in the list of number one hits in Norway and number 4 in Sweden .

Millo's compositions for films and television series have won several awards in Australia, including the coveted Australian Film Institute Award for Simon Wincer's The Lighthorsemen .

For Brides of Christ he won the 1992 Australian Record Industry Association Award in the Best Original Soundtrack Album category . Millo has won several awards for the same prize. 1997 for GP and 2002 again for Changi .

Mario Millo lives and works in New South Wales , Australia.
