Mario Muscat (born August 18, 1976 in Paola ) is a former Maltese football player and current coach .

Career

Mario Muscat played for the Maltese top club Hibernians Paola since he was a teenager . Since the 1993 season he was in the squad of the 1st team and since then also the number 1 in goal. With the club he won several championship titles and cup victories . In early 2014, he moved to the Vittoriosa Stars on loan , and was relegated with the club at the end of the 2013/14 season . In August 2014 he left the Hibernians and took a six-month break. At the beginning of 2015 he joined FC Qormi , but did not appear as a substitute goalkeeper. In mid-2015 he moved to promoted Pembroke Athleta . In 2016 he returned to the Hibernians, where he acted as a substitute goalkeeper and goalkeeping coach. In summer 2018 he ended his active career and became head coach of FC Qormi. After relegation in 2019 , he left the club and joined Senglea Athletics . He was released there in early 2020.

From 1996 to 2009 he was a national player , where he played a total of 67 games as number 1.
