Mario Nocentini (born March 31, 1927 in Monaco , † October 1, 1984 ibid) was a Monegasque football player .

Career

The defender Nocentini came from the Principality of Monaco and played from 1944 for the local club AS Monaco , which traditionally participates in the French league. In 1948 the Monegasque received the license for the second division, but the young player could not book any appearances in the following season 1948/49. In the summer of 1949 he still managed to move to the French first division club Olympique Marseille . At a time when substitutions and substitutions were not yet possible, he initially had to be content with a reservist role in Marseille. On September 11, 1949, he was in the starting line-up for the first time in a 1-1 draw against Stade Rennes , making his professional debut. Occasional considerations followed in the further course of the season. In the 1951/52 season he was initially not considered at all, but then moved up to the first team in the second half of the season. With this he experienced a strong sporting downward trend, which ended in third from bottom of the table and did not lead to relegation only thanks to a successful relegation round. Nocentini was then able to defend his regular place, did not miss a league match during the 1952/53 season and was sixth with his again strengthened team. In the following year, however, Marseille slipped back into the relegation zone and was only just able to avoid falling into the second division. In 1954 he left the club after five years with 86 first division matches and rejoined AS Monaco.

Monaco now also played in the top division and relied on a team that consisted largely of French players. In the period from 1948 to 2006, only eleven Monegasque made it into the team, seven of which were able to deny more than ten missions. Nocentini was able to establish himself as a member of this small group in the 1954/55 season as a regular player. He was part of a stable defensive, which together with runners-up Toulouse FC had the fewest goals conceded, but due to the weak storm and a very even table situation, this was only just enough to stay in the class. The season 1955/56, however, was extremely successful and ended in third place in the table, with the team only two points behind the neighboring club OGC Nice and accordingly narrowly missed a win in the French championship. Nocentini had almost no part in it, however, as he had not made it past two season appearances and had already joined the second division team SO Montpellier in October 1955 .

In Montpellier he spent his only second division season, during which he took part in a total of 16 matches and scored one goal. In the summer of 1956 he returned to AS Monaco, but was only intended for the second team there. During the 1957/58 season, Nocentini was allowed to play a first division game again, which was his 27th and last appearance for the first team at AS Monaco. In 1958 he ended his playing career. He died in Monaco in 1984 at the age of 57.
