Mario Pedrazzini

Mario Michelangelo Pedrazzini (born November 6, 1925 in Locarno ; † October 5, 2007 ) was a Swiss legal scholar who was particularly active in the field of intellectual property law.

Life

Pedrazzini, whose family comes from Campo (Vallemaggia) , went to school in Locarno and Ascona ( Collegio Papio ). After graduating from high school in 1944, he began studying law at the University of Zurich . In 1952 he received his doctorate there under Zaccaria Giacometti with a thesis on the Italian language in Swiss federal law. In 1957 he completed his habilitation - also in Zurich - on a patentable invention. His habilitation thesis formed the basis of the first volume of a three-volume commentary on patent law published together with Rudolf Blum (Bern 1957). In 1966, Pedrazzini accepted an appointment at the University of St. Gallen as a full professor of private and commercial law including competition and intellectual property law. From 1967 he was also adjunct professor in Zurich. In addition to his teaching activities, Pedrazzini headed the Institute for European and International Economic and Social Law in St. Gallen for over 20 years from 1967 and was Vice-Rector of the university from 1972 to 1975. In 1990 Pedrazzini resigned from teaching.

In addition to his university activities, Pedrazzini became a part-time partner of the Zurich law firm Staehelin & Giezendanner (now Lenz & Staehelin ) in 1968 . He also worked in various federal expert commissions.

Pedrazzini emerged as the author of several textbooks, specifically on personal law (Bern 1982, 4th edition 1993), fair trading law (Bern 1992, 2nd edition 2002) and intellectual property and competition law (Bern 1998).
