Mario ship
Mario Schiff (born August 27, 1868 in Florence , † March 8, 1915 in Naples ) was an Italian Romanist and Hispanist of German descent.
life and work
Mario Schiff grew up in Florence until the age of eight , where his German father Moritz Schiff and his uncle Hugo Schiff were university lecturers. In 1876 his father went to the University of Geneva , so that Schiff spent the rest of his childhood and youth in a Francophone environment. From 1891 he studied in Paris at the École nationale des chartes , as well as at the École pratique des hautes études with a focus on Spanish. From 1907 Schiff taught French at the University of Florence , first as a lecturer, from 1914 as an associate professor. He died at the age of 46.
