Iñigo López de Mendoza
Íñigo López de Mendoza , 1st Margrave (marques) of Santillana and Count (conde) of Manzanares el Real (born August 19, 1398 in Carrión de los Condes , Palencia ; † March 25, 1458 in Guadalajara ) was a Spanish statesman and poet . He came from the Mendoza house .
Life
Iñigo López de Mendoza was of noble descent; his father, Diego Hurtado de Mendoza , was Grand Admiral of Castile. He himself served at the court of King John II of Castile , distinguished himself in military service and took part in the battles of Huelma (1438) and Olmedo (1445). Mendoza played an important role in the fall of Álvaro de Luna (1453). In 1455 he was promoted to margrave (marques) . In his final years he devoted himself to writing. He wrote a collection of doctrinal proverbs (Proverbios de gloriosa doctrina) , and a dialogue of a similar style (Dialogo de bias contra fortuna) . His Comedieta de Ponza , influenced by Dante Alighieri , described the battle during which King Alfonso V of Aragon was captured in Genoese (1435).
Literary meaning
The Marques de Santillana is considered an early representative of independent poetry in Spanish . His sonnets were created under the influence of the Italian Renaissance ( Dante , Petrarca ) . He also arranged for the translation of classical Greek and Latin authors.

The name of the Marques de Santillana is closely linked to the extensive area around the city of Guadalajara , because here he was the landlord (señor) of numerous places such as Atanzón , Hita , Mondéjar , Navacerrada , Pioz , Pozo , Tendilla , Trijueque and others
progeny
Mendoza is the father of the first Duke of El Infantado and the progenitor of all subsequent dukes. Another son is the cardinal and chancellor Pedro González de Mendoza (1428–1495).
