Marion Wicher

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Marion Wicher (* 1966 in Graz ) is an Austrian architect .

Life

Marion Wicher studied at the architecture faculty of the Graz University of Technology . She finished her architecture studies with a diploma thesis with Günther Domenig . This was followed by a Post Graduate Masters course in Advanced Architectural Design at Columbia University in New York , which was completed in 1995. After these studies she worked for architects Thom Mayne and Joost Meuwissen, among others .

In 2002 Wicher opened her own office in Graz. In 2003 there was a loose office merger with her colleague Ruth Berktold . In 2004, this collaboration resulted in a cooperative architecture office called “yes architecture”. In 2018 she founded "Marion Wicher Architektur, yes wicher". So far, Wicher has not only worked as a planning architect with an international focus, but also as a spatial artist and lecturer.

In addition to numerous awards, Wichers objects have been nominated several times for the architecture award of the state of Styria and the building owner award of the Central Association of Architects in Austria.

style

Wicher's architectural style was influenced by her teachers and can generally be assigned to the Graz School. This made a name for itself, especially in the 90s of the last century, due to its particular joy in innovation, the spirit of experimentation and architectural demands. The design language of the Graz school is considered expressive and visionary, sculptural, memorable and dynamic. Often inclined surfaces and lines are used to give the structures a flowing appearance.
