Maripa panamensis is a plant type from the genus Maripa from the family of wind plants (Convolvulaceae). The species is common in America .

description

Maripa panamensis is a liana with twisting or angled, light brown stems . The leaf blades are ovate, elliptical or vice versa ovate, 7 to 15 cm long, the base is wedge-shaped to more or less rounded, towards the front they are pointed to blunt. The leaf surfaces are bald, leathery with a clearly raised, wrinkled structure between the secondary veins. The top is matte.

The inflorescences are terminal, paniculate - thyrsenic and covered with reddish, glandular trichomes . The bracts are triangular, sloping and densely covered with shield-shaped, glandular trichomes. The flower stalks are 3 to 4 mm long. The sepals are ovate to broadly ovate, 7 to 8 mm long, leathery, the outer ones are covered with reddish, shield-shaped, glandular trichomes, the inner ones are covered with adjoining trichomes or hairless. The crown is purple to pale purple in color, 25 to 30 (rarely up to 37) mm long.

The fruits are elliptical to broadly elliptical in shape, measure 17 to 25 mm in diameter and are dry with 16 to 22 furrows. They are initially yellow and later turn light to dark brown. The seeds are elliptical to ovate, 15 to 17 mm long and 9 to 10 mm thick.

The species is distributed in eastern Panama as well as in northern Colombia and Venezuela .
