Marit Nybakk

Marit Nybakk (born February 14, 1947 in Nord-Odal ) is a Norwegian politician of the Social Democratic Labor Party . She was a member of the Storting from 1986 to 2017 and was its 1st Vice-President since 2013, was President of the Nordic Council in 2013 and was President of Norsk Kvinnesaksforening from 2016 to 2018 .

education

Nybakk studied English, French and political science in Oslo, Paris and Cambridge and completed her studies with the Candidata Magisterii exam. She also studied theater in Stratford-upon-Avon in 1974. She began her political career as a student politician and was a member of the Senate of the University of Oslo 1973–1974 and President of the International Aid Fund for Norwegian Students and Academics 1977–1981.

Member of Parliament

From 1986 to 2017 she was a member of the Norwegian parliament, the Storting, for the Oslo constituency . She was originally elected as a deputy MP in 1985 and moved up as a MP for Gro Harlem Brundtland in 1986 when Brundtland became Prime Minister. She was re-elected as MP for the Oslo constituency in 1989, 1993, 1997, 2001, 2005, 2009 and 2013.

She was Chair of the Standing Committee on Defense from 2001 to 2005 and Deputy Chair of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs from 2005 to 2009. From 2009 to 2013 she was 3rd Vice President of Storting and from 2013 to 2017 1st Vice President of Storting.

International offices

Nybakk was President of the Nordic Council in 2013 .

She was also the leader of the Socialist Group in the NATO Parliamentary Assembly .

Other offices

From 1987 to 1988 she was chairwoman of the Norwegian Development Aid Council.

From 2016 to 2018 she was President of Norsk Kvinnesaksforening .

She is a member of the council of the organization SOS Children's Villages in Norway.
