Marius Kohl

Marius Kohl (* 1952 ) is a former official of the Luxembourg tax authorities. From the 37 years of his activity, he was head of the Sociétés 6 tax department for 22 years until his retirement in 2013 . Thousands of applications from foreign companies wishing to invest capital in Luxembourg in order to save taxes passed through his desk. In 2010 it became known that Kohl was the central figure in these processes. In consultation with his employers, then Finance Ministers Jean-Claude Juncker and Luc Frieden , Kohl decided most of the applications were positive.

In 2010 and increasingly in November 2014 under the name Luxemburg-Leaks , several media published thousands of confidential papers from the Dutch company of the accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers . The institute worked closely with the Luxembourg tax authorities and in particular with the Sociétés 6 department . Most of these documents show the correspondence with Marius Kohl; these include u. a. favorable tax rulings , which is why Kohl was called "Monsieur Ruling" within the industry. Kohl was valued by corporations and tax consultants because his work is quick and uncomplicated, and the approved corporate structures are a significant part of Luxembourg's tax revenues.

The Wall Street Journal quotes a characteristic statement by Kohl. He regrets nothing: "The work I did definitely benefited the country, though maybe not in terms of reputation."
