Marius Linartas (born November 18, 1973 in Klaipėda ) is a Lithuanian basketball coach .

career

Linartas started playing basketball at the age of eight and played in the Lithuanian second division himself. After studying sport at the Vytautas Magnus University Education Academy , he began his coaching career at the Šarūnas Marčiulionis Basketball Academy , where he supervised young Lithuanian players for eleven years. He then coached the youth team of Lietuvos rytas Vilnius , with whom he took second place in the Euroleague Basketball Next Generation Tournament in 2009 , as well as the U-18 selection of the Lithuanian national basketball team , with which he won the FIBA U18 European Championship in 2010. Subsequently, he was mainly employed as a trainer assistant in Lithuania, Poland, Russia and China.

In 2018 he moved to Germany, where he was responsible for the promotion of youth players at Bundesliga club Science City Jena as assistant coach of the professional team and as coach of the second team in the Regionalliga Südost . After the first division team suffered several defeats in a row and was bottom of the table, the previous coach Björn Harmsen handed over responsibility for the team to Linartas. After relegation to the ProA , he was again assistant coach (this time at the side of Frank Menz ) of the professional team and coach of the second team, which has been the Culture City Weimar since 2019.
