The Kirchbichl power plant is a run-of-river power plant on the Inn near Kirchbichl in the Lower Inn Valley . It is designed as a loop power plant , a form of diversion power plant .

At Kirchbichl the Inn flows through an approximately 3.5 km long river loop. To the west of the loop, the Inn is dammed by a weir with four weir fields and most of the water is discharged into a canal. The power plant is at the end of the canal, which is just over 1 km long.

Expansion from 2017

The Kirchbichl power plant has been renewed and expanded since 2017. A fish migration aid is being built at the weir that connects the upper water with the river bend. In addition, a doping power plant is being built here, which will generate electricity from the water released into the river loop as residual water. The expansion flow of the doping power plant will be 15 m³ / s.

To the north-west of the existing power house, a second power house will be built with an expansion flow rate of 250 m³ / s in order to increase the overall expansion flow rate and the maximum output of the power plant. In addition, the old power house will be expanded and the maximum flow rate increased from 250 m³ / s to 284 m³ / s. The total maximum output of the two power houses will increase to approx. 38 MW. The work should be completed by the end of 2020.
