The Gars power plant is a run-of-river power plant operated by the Austrian Verbund AG in the Upper Bavarian municipality of Gars am Inn .
The power plant is located northeast of the district of Gars-Bahnhof , near the hamlet of Agg .
In order to be able to expand the aluminum smelter in Töging , which until then had been supplied with electricity by the Töging power plant , Innwerk AG commissioned the planning of power plants on the Inn . One of the power plants was finally built in Gars am Inn. The Teufelsbruck power plant and the Wasserburg power plant were built at the same time .
The power plant, built from 1935 to 1938, consists of a four-span weir on the right bank and a power house with five Kaplan turbines on the left. There is no machine hall, the two gantry cranes operate outdoors. In 2011–13 the power plant was expanded to include a Kaplan bulb turbine with an output of 5 MW between the weir fields and the right bank of the Inn.
Since March 2015 there has been a 680 m long fish pass on the left bank of the Innf .
The successor of Innwerk AG, E.ON Wasserkraft GmbH , sold the power plant in 2009 to the Austrian Verbund AG.
