Mariusz Walter

Mariusz Antoni Walter (born January 4, 1937 in Lemberg ) is a major media entrepreneur in Poland . He is a co-founder of the TVN broadcasting group and is one of the wealthiest Polish business people.

Journalist and producer

Walter studied at the Silesian Technical University in Gliwice . From the 1970s he was one of the best-known television journalists in Poland. Walter also worked as a director. He has also produced around 60 documentaries and reports. He worked for the Polish television broadcaster TVP from 1963 to 1982, from 1978 to 1982 he was editor-in-chief of various programs - such as “Turniej Miast” (city tournament) or “Studio 2”. During the time of martial law he quit his job at the state television company. From 1967 to 1983 he was a member of the Polish United Workers' Party . From 1979 to 1984 he taught television journalism at the Silesian University in Katowice .

Entrepreneur

In 1983 Walter and Jan Wejchert founded the first company of what would later become the ITI Group . ITI initially received an import license and distributed VHS videos in Poland. From 1997 the company and its founders concentrated on building up the TVN network, which Walter managed until 2001. In the years from 2004 to 2011 Walter was listed seven times in the annual list of the 100 richest Poles published by Wprost magazine . Here he was listed in positions 16 to 44 with asset estimates between 450 and 1,200 million zlotys .

Awards

Walter was honored several times both as a filmmaker and as an entrepreneur. So he received Pierwszy for his film . Szósty was awarded the Venice City Prize in 1971 in the Documentation category at the Prix ​​Italia . In 1999, Impact magazine voted him “Człowiek Roku w Mediach”, and in 2011 he received the “Człowiek Roku” Media Trend award. On November 7, 2011, he was awarded the Order of Polonia Restituta for his outstanding performance in television entertainment .

family

Walter's wife is former TV announcer Bożena Walter. His daughter Sandra Nowak works as a journalist at TVN, his son Piotr Walter works there as general director.
