Marjorie Van Ryn

Marjorie "Midge" Gladman Van Ryn (born June 21, 1908 in Santa Monica , California , † November 9, 1999 in Peterborough , New Hampshire ) was an American tennis player.

life and career

Gladman Van Ryn was a successful amateur tennis player in the 1930s. She played at the University of Southern California , ranked in the top 10 in the United States between 1928 and 1937, and achieved her best ranking in 1937 with fourth place. The greatest success of their career was winning the US tennis championships (today: US Open ) in women's doubles alongside Carolin Babcock in 1936. The two Americans defeated Helen Jacobs and Sarah Palfrey Fabyan 9: 7, 2 in the final : 6, 6: 4. Van Ryn also reached the finals in New York of 1933, 1937 and 1940 in women's doubles.

In 1930 she married John Van Ryn , a noted tennis player and a member of the International Tennis Hall of Fame .
