Mark Powers

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mark Powers is a German science fiction - series , the booklet in 78 novels of 23 March 1962 to 21 October 1966 in Pabel publishing house appeared.

The series was the publisher's attempt to repeat the success of the then competing Moewig Verlag with the Perry Rhodan series. However, since the series was initially written without an exposé , the lack of consultation between the authors resulted in a large number of content-related contradictions. In contrast to Perry Rhodan , Mark Powers was initially a series of independent single novels with the same protagonists. Only after 17 issues was an exposé editing introduced ( Lore Straßl ), which enabled a continuous story without, however, containing cyclical arcs.

In 2006 , a previously unpublished Mark Powers novel by the author I. v. Stand published by SSI-Verlag , which at the time had been rejected by Pabel-Verlag because of its brutal act at the time.

Editions and forms of appearance

Initially, 17 issues were published as part of the Utopia series. Every second issue between volumes 320 to 352 was a Mark Powers novel. On November 16, 1962, the series was spun off and published as a separate series. Issues 1 to 26 each contained a two- to three-page comic strip in the middle of the booklet, which told of other adventures by Mark Powers. However, since it was merely a question of rewritten Flash Gordon comics, there were only few connections to the actual novel series.

Due to the lack of success, the series with volume 48 was discontinued in October 1964 and reintegrated into the Utopia series. After initially a double volume and eight other novels were published every two weeks, three issues were added at longer intervals, but no longer indicated that they belonged to the Mark Powers series.

Mark Powers was rediscovered in January 2004. The author Heinz Wipperfürth published his homage “Die Sternseherin von Gedd” in Hamburg's Capricornus Verlag M. Fritzsche on the long-forgotten series of books. The novel was published again under the same title by Mohlberg Verlag in June of the same year in the SIRIUS EXCLUSIV series .

In November 2004, Hary-Production brought out the title "The Woodstock Conspiracy" by Th. Pensator within the ad astra magazine series using the characters from the Mark Powers series ( ad astra 64). There then appeared in May 2005 with ad astra 69 "In der Hölle von Calcifer" another title, which was also written by Th. Pensator.
