Mark Wallenwein (born April 16, 1987 in Stuttgart ) is a German rally driver . He is the German rally champion 2012. He is the younger brother of the German rally champion from 2011 Sandro Wallenwein .

Career

Mark Wallenwein began his racing career in 1996 with kart slalom. In 2003, at the age of 16, he started at the ADAC Slalom Cup. He drove his very first rally in a Citroën Saxo on July 2, 2005 at the Grabfeld rally in Sulzdorf an der Lederhecke in Lower Franconia , Germany's most popular automobile rally . On his debut he was fifth in his class, just behind Felix Herbold and was a very good 70th out of 150 starters in the overall ranking. Incidentally, his brother Sandro was able to win the strong rally by a narrow margin. In 2006 Mark completed his first rally season and his first world championship run in the Suzuki Ignis Rallye Cup with current co-driver Stefan Kopczyk. In 2007 international rallies followed in the Finnish and German rally championships on Suzuki Ignis, Subaru Impreza and Honda Civic. In 2008 Mark completed all races for the German Rally Championship on a Citroen C2R2 and won Division 3 (6th place in the overall standings). Also in 2008, Mark appeared for the first time in the “Top 25 list” of the best German rally drivers. By winning the ADAC Sports Sichting Foundation in the “Rally” category, Mark received a support package from the 2009 season and was able to complete four World Rally Championship outings in the Renault Clio R3 alongside the German Rally Championship. When Škoda Auto Deutschland entered the German Rally Championship in 2010, Mark became a works driver alongside Matthias Kahle . With an overall victory at the Saarland Rally and further podium places, he secured fourth championship rank at the 2010 German Rally Championship. In 2011, Mark contested a total of four Intercontinental Rally Challenge runs, including the Monte Carlo Rally . The best result was achieved at the final in Cyprus with 8th place overall. In 2012, Mark returned to the German Rally Championship in a Škoda Fabia S2000 with the support of Frantz Wallenborn from Luxembourg. At the ADAC Saarland Rally , the Swabian was able to secure the title of "German Rally Champion" ahead of schedule with third place behind his brother Sandro Wallenwein and the multiple German rally champion Hermann Gassner junior .
