Markku Kiimalainen (born October 8, 1955 in Oulu ) is a former Finnish ice hockey player who played exclusively for his home club Kärpät Oulu during his active time from 1972 to 1992 .

Career

Markku Kiimalainen began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of Kärpät Oulu , for whose professional team he was initially active in the second Finnish division from 1972 to 1977. After promotion to the SM-liiga , the attacker scored 46 scorer points in 36 games in the 1977/78 season , including 31 goals. He was the top scorer in the SM-liiga and was also named the best rookie in the SM-liiga . In the 1980/81 season he won the Finnish championship with his team . In the following years he remained one of Kärpät's leading players in the SM-liiga and even after his relegation in the 1988/89 season played for his home club in the second-class I divisioona for three years before he ended his career at the age of 36.

International

For Finland , Kiimalainen took part in the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid . He was also in his country's squad for the World Cup and Canada Cup in 1981 .
