Marko Laine

Marko Mikael Laine (born July 1, 1968 in Tampere ) is a former Finnish - German basketball player .

career

The 1.95 meter tall winger was in the service of the Tampereen Pyrintö and Lahden NMKY clubs in his home country of Finland , before moving to Germany in 1992 and playing for SSV 1846 Ulm in the Bundesliga basketball team in the 1992/93 season  . In 1993/94 he played in the 2nd basketball league for SV Oberelchingen and was promoted to the Bundesliga as the champion of the southern season of the second division. However, Laine stayed in the second division and followed the Oberelching coach Thomas Benson to SG Braunschweig . After he strengthened Lower Saxony in the 1994/95 season, he joined the Bundesliga promoted TG Renesas Landshut in 1995 . Laine's year in Landshut was marked by injury problems and the team was relegated from the Bundesliga.

In 1996 he moved to DJK Würzburg in the 2nd Bundesliga South. With Würzburg he rose to the basketball league in 1998 , Laine was the captain of the team that included Dirk Nowitzki , Demond Greene  and Robert Garrett  . In the 2000/01 game year Laine, who was particularly noticeable as a sure three-thrower and as a good defensive player, played with Würzburg in the European club competition Korac Cup .

In June 2018, the former Finnish national player, who played four A-internationals for his country, became German champion in the age group over 40 with the TG Würzburg .
