The Altlandsberg market square is the central square in Altlandsberg , a town in the state of Brandenburg ( Märkisch-Oderland district ). The city is located east of Berlin in the so-called “closer interdependence” of the federal capital.

The kurbrandenburgisch - Prussian privy councilor and diplomat Otto Graf von Schwerin put the place after the great fire of 1684 to on the cleared area of four town houses. The design and planting was quickly accepted by the residents and the square developed into a meeting place for Altlandsberg citizens in the 18th and 19th centuries. There they welcomed high-ranking guests such as Friedrich I or Friedrich Wilhelm IV. In 1935, the handball club MTV Altlandsberg erected a monument to Friedrich Ludwig Jahn in 1860 for its 75th anniversary in the northern area of ​​the square . Friendly sports communities donated several boulders for this purpose . At the time of the Weimar Republic took advantage of paramilitary combat units such as the Red American Legion or the Sturmabteilung of the NSDAP the place for parades and demonstrations. It was the latter who renamed the area to Platz der SA during the Nazi era . After the end of the Second World War it was called Freedom Square - and was fenced in as an honorary grove to bury fallen Soviet soldiers. After the fall of the Wall , another redesign took place: the graves were reburied on the northeast side in 1992 and the square was given its old name back. In 1997 the monument to gymnastics father Jahn was restored. In the southwest there is a market fountain designed by the graphic artist Johannes KG Niedlich .
