Markus Bötefor

Markus Bötefür (born July 23, 1965 in Oberhausen ) is a German historian , writer and fishing expert .

Bötefür studied history and German at the University of Essen (today University of Duisburg-Essen ) . In 1995 he passed the master’s examination there and obtained his doctorate in 1999 at the chair of Paul Münch with the study of the history of mentality as a destination and corporate integration. In addition to his literary history work, he also deals with regional history topics of the early modern period, especially with the local history of the Ruhr area . Shortly after the turn of the millennium, Bötefür was a visiting professor at the Prince of Songkhla University in Pattani, Thailand . For several years he has been researching the history of European-Asian relations in the early modern period. He also writes detective novels , most of which are based in the Ruhr area, and which have the German-Vietnamese commissioner Thi Fischer as a heroine. Bötefür is considered an expert on fishing and has written numerous books and made several films on the subject.
