Controversy

In April 2019, Hein said in an interview on mein district.at , "Editors will cry because they will be sued personally." This was interpreted as an attempted interference with the freedom of the press. The reason for this statement was incorrect reporting in a local print medium.

In September 2019, Hein was criticized by a post on his Facebook page. The post showed a photo montage of the Green politicians Sigrid Maurer with a cap titled "Interior Minister * In" and in the foreground a hooded man with a knife. The picture was provided with the words "In Austria already six knife attacks per day" and Hein himself wrote, among other things, "I just had a nightmare ...". The posting was deleted after a few hours, however, and Hein himself responded with: "The approval of the posting was not carefully considered, too frivolous." The club chairman of the Linz ÖVP , Martin Hajart , criticized Sigrid Maurer and asked him to apologize.
