Markus Hoppe (born October 18, 1966 in Göttingen ) is a German politician ( SPD ). He was State Secretary in Thuringia from 2014 to 2020 .

Markus Hoppe studied from 1988 to 1993 at the Georg-August-University of Goettingen Business Administration , graduating with a diploma - Kaufmann . During his studies from 1990 to 1993 he worked for Thomas Oppermann, member of the Lower Saxony state parliament .

After graduating, he was managing director in the SPD district of Hanover until 1997 . He then moved to the state administration of Lower Saxony, where he was head of department in the Ministry of Science and Culture until 2004 . From 2004 to 2014 he was Vice President of the University of Göttingen. On December 5, 2014, he was appointed State Secretary in the Thuringian Ministry of Economics, Science and Digital Society . He was given temporary retirement in March 2020. He has been a member of the University Council of the University of Erfurt since October 2019 .

Hoppe is a member of the SPD. From 1996 to 2011 he was a member of the district council of the Göttingen district , where he acted as parliamentary group chairman from 2000 to 2004 .
