Markus Schleicher

Markus Schleicher (born April 25, 1884 in Mögglingen ; † March 11, 1951 in Stuttgart ) was a German trade unionist and politician of the SPD .

Schleicher, who learned to be a carpenter, joined the German Woodworkers ' Association in 1901 and the SPD in 1904. In 1909 he was appointed head of the Stuttgart administrative office of the German Woodworkers' Association, from 1920 to 1933 he was a member of the main board. After the war in 1946 he became a member of the board of the newly founded trade union federation Württemberg-Baden . Also in 1946 he was a member of the Provisional People's Representation for Württemberg-Baden as a representative of the unions. He also served as the executive chairman of the Zone Union Committee for the American Zone . In 1949 he was elected the first federal chairman of the wood industry union , and in 1950 chairman of the newly founded DGB regional district of Württemberg-Baden . He held both posts until his death.
