Marrubium supinum is a plant type from the genus horehound ( Marrubium ) in the family of Labiatae (Lamiaceae).

description

Marrubium supinum is a perennial plant that is lignified at the base and reaches heights of 14 to 77 cm. The stems are woolly white in the lower part and woolly-tomentose in the upper part. They are mostly unbranched. The leaves are kidney-shaped or kidney-shaped-circular, heart-shaped at the base, the edge is deeply notched. Both sides of the leaf blade are densely hairy white woolly. The leaf stalks are longer than the leaf blades .

The inflorescence consists of spherical, 16 to 26-flowered pseudo whorls. The bracts are conspicuous, subpulate and feathery shaggy hairy. The calyx tube is 5 to 7 mm long and slightly ten-ribbed. It is tomentose. The five calyx teeth are shorter than the crown and the calyx tube. They are erect and straight or later slightly protruding and are feathery and shaggy hairy. The crown is cream to purple in color and hairy on the outside. The upper lip is divided almost in half into two spatula-shaped lobes. The outer lobes of the lower lip are much smaller than the middle lobe.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 34. The species flowers from April to August.

Occurrence

The species grows in the mountains of central and southern Spain, as well as Morocco , Algeria and Tunisia . It inhabits sites rich in bases and nutrients in stony terrain, on roadsides and in fallow land.
