Marrubium thessalum is a vegetable art from the genus horehound ( Marrubium ) in the family of Labiatae (Lamiaceae).

description

Marrubium thessalum is a perennial , herbaceous plant with heights of 30 to 50 cm. The hair on the plant consists of whitish trichomes . The stems are hairy, woolly and tomentose, unbranched or with a few short, upright, non-flowering branches. The leaves are oblong to ovate-oblong or obovate. The base is wedge-shaped, the leaf margin is notched, the upper side is tomentose, the underside is hairy white woolly and tomentose. The petiole is shorter than the leaf blade .

The inflorescence consists of spherical, many-flowered pseudo whorls . The bracts are subpulate and about as long as the calyx-tube . The calyx tube is 4.5 to 5.5 mm long, ten-ribbed and tomentose, especially along the ribs, with star hairs . The five calyx teeth are 2.5 to 3 mm long and are clearly surmounted by the crown. They are straight, of equal length, erect, sub-like and hairy with shaggy hair. The crown is 8 to 12 mm long, white and hairy on the outside. The corolla tube is suddenly constricted below the middle. The upper lip is elongated and divided into two spatula-shaped lobes for a third or up to half to a third. The outer lobes of the lower lip are significantly smaller than the middle lobes. The Klausen measure 2.5 × 1.5 mm and are furrowed on the back.

The flowering period extends from June to August.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 20.

Occurrence

Marrubium thessalum occurs in northern Greece ( Thessaly and Macedonia ) and in southern Albania . The locations of this lime plant are rocky places in pastures of the subalpine and alpine level, at an altitude of 1100 to 2400 meters. The species seldom descends to 500 m in ravines.
