Marschalken von Schiltberg
The Marschalken von Schiltberg (also Schildberg , Schiltberger , Schildberger , Schiltberch or Schildberch ), one of the oldest Bavarian noble families (first documented mention in 1031), lived in the castle on the Hofberg near Schiltberg and were therefore immediate neighbors of the Count Palatine von Wittelsbach , from whom the later ducal and royal family emerged. The aristocratic family owned the Marschalkenamt at the court of the Wittelsbach family and the high courts were also in their power. After the main line died out in the 13th century, the Luitold line, which was founded by Luitold II, the brother of Berchthold V, continued to exist.
