history

Ulrich Marseille opened his first retirement home with 40 beds in Langen (Geestland) on March 31, 1984 , which was expanded a year later.

The company was founded in 1984 as a GmbH and converted into a stock corporation in December 1994; in doing so, the shell of a company that had ceased its original business activity was used (shell recycling ). The pottery industry Wiesloch AG until the end of the 1980s, a manufacturer of roof tiles, has been in Marseille-Kliniken AG renamed. The stock corporation is named after the main shareholder and CEO Ulrich Marseille and his adoptive father Theo Marseille.

The first official trading of the Marseille-Kliniken shares took place on October 4, 1996.

In February 1996 the majority of the Karlsruher Sanatoriums AG was taken over. In May 2009, the Marseille-Kliniken separated from the rehabilitation division and sold the stakes in the rehabilitation clinics of the Karlsruhe Sanatorium.

In 2000, together with Donald Trump and the Trump Organization , the TD Trump Germany AG established for the planning and marketing of a "Trump Tower" in Germany. Frankfurt , Berlin and ultimately Stuttgart were planned as locations . TD Trump Deutschland AG was dissolved in 2005 amid disputes with Trump and public prosecutor investigations.

In June 2014, the company announced its withdrawal from the stock exchange. Valora Effekten Handel AG is expected to start trading shares from mid-August 2014 . Initially there were plans to trade these shares on a newly created in-house platform of the Marseille-Kliniken. The German Protection Association for Securities Possession criticized this project.

According to the program "Die Rausschmeißer" from July 2017, the company, with the help of attorney Helmut Naujoks, obtained the dismissal of a long-term works council member. In 2017, 46 of 55 inpatient elderly care homes with a total of 5,400 homes and around 4,000 jobs, corresponding to two-thirds of sales and thus the core business of the MK Group, were sold to the French private equity investor group Checkers Capital . The Silver Care Group acted as a co-investor, which in turn has belonged to the Orpea Group SA since 2014 - shares sign FR0000184798. After Korian, Orpea is one of the largest nursing home operators in Europe.

Data protection scandal

At the end of May 2020, hundreds of unsecured patient files were discovered in the former St. Nikolaus Hospital (Büren) . The hospital belonged to the company's predecessor (Marseille Kliniken) after it was sold by the church and has been vacant since October 2010. The improper storage of the highly sensitive files that did not comply with data protection laws triggered criminal and data protection investigations by the responsible authorities.
