Ulrich Marseille (* 23. December 1955 as Ulrich Hansel in Bremerhaven ) is a German entrepreneur and politician.

biography

The birth parents of Ulrich Hansel, who was born in Germany, died early. The boy therefore grew up in the Marseille family, friends with his parents, in Bremerhaven . There Theo and Ilse Marseille built up a flourishing company with movie theaters. Theo Marseille comes from a silk weaver family from Krefeld. Together with his foster son Ulrich, he founded a company in 1984 from which the Marseille-Kliniken emerged. After Theo Marseille's death, Ulrich Hansel was adopted by his wife Ilse in order to also bear the company's name. After graduating from high school, Marseille studied economics and law at the University of Bremen without graduating.

Entrepreneur

In 1984, Marseille opened its first own nursing home for the elderly in Langen, with 40 beds. This was the basis for the expanding company Marseille-Kliniken AG. After German reunification, Marseille-Kliniken AG continued to grow dynamically by opening up new locations in the new federal states; the company has around 8,000 beds in 60 facilities. In 1994, Marseille became CEO of the listed Marseille-Kliniken AG. Since 1996 he has had a seat on the supervisory board of the subsidiary Karlsruher-Sanatorium AG. The Karlsruher-Sanatorium AG operates rehabilitation clinics in Baden-Württemberg and Hesse . In 1999 he gave up the chairmanship of the executive board of Marseille-Kliniken AG and switched to the company's supervisory board. In March 2003 he took over the chairmanship of the supervisory board of Marseille-Kliniken AG. When the then chairman of the board, Axel Hölzer, officially resigned from his position “for health reasons” in March 2010, Marseille took on this task again. In July 2011, he announced his resignation due to various legal proceedings in which he was convicted (see below: “Legal proceedings”).

Together with his wife Estella-Maria, he holds a majority stake of around 60 percent in the company.

In 2000, together with Donald Trump and the Trump Organization , the TD Trump Germany AG established for the planning and marketing of a "Trump Tower" in Germany. Frankfurt , Berlin and ultimately Stuttgart were planned as locations . TD Trump Deutschland AG was dissolved in 2005 amid disputes with Trump and public prosecutor investigations.

In 2006, Marseille inherited the "Wall-Lichtspiele" movie theater in Oldenburg from his mother , which he has deliberately allowed to expire in 2007 in order to obtain a demolition permit.

Politician

In 2001, Marseille joined the rule of law offensive party - the so-called “Schill Party” - and was its top candidate in the state elections of Saxony-Anhalt in 2002. The party then failed with 4.5% of the vote at the five-percent hurdle . In the same year it hit the headlines because he had flown the Hamburg party chairman Ronald Schill in his private plane from Hamburg to Munich so that he could give a hair sample there to dispel rumors of cocaine abuse . In 2003, Marseille left the party.

Legal proceedings

A procedure in Marseilles through all instances up to the Federal Constitutional Court for admission to the state law examination went to his disadvantage. After failing the first state examination in 1983, he tried to buy a law thesis for the re-exam. Marseille sued unsuccessfully against the decision of the examination office, which had excluded him from further exams after his attempt at deception came to light. Nevertheless, Marseille is occasionally referred to in the media as a lawyer, which is not legally open to challenge, as lawyer (in contrast to lawyer, for example ) is not a protected professional title.

In 2009, Marseille was sentenced to a suspended prison sentence of one year by the Halle Regional Court for attempting to incite false testimony with attempted coercion , because he is said to have tried in 2000, through a threatening letter, to testify by a witness in a compensation process before the Naumburg Higher Regional Court To influence. He was the edition issued to pay € 6 million to the state treasury. The higher regional court in Naumburg dismissed Marseilles appeal against the judgment, but changed the monetary requirement.

In another trial in 2010, the Halle Regional Court sentenced Marseille to a year imprisonment for bribery , which was suspended. With the conclusion of the appeal proceedings at the Naumburg Higher Regional Court, the judgment has been final since July 2011.

Marseille said a few days after the judgment against the magazine Wirtschaftswoche first only his willingness to resign from his post as CEO to damage from Marseille-Kliniken ward. Just six days later, Manager Magazin announced the resignation of Marseilles.

After Manager Magazin reported again on Marseille's career and mentioned, among other things, his attempt at deception during the first legal examination, Marseille first won a legal dispute before the Hamburg Regional Court and the Hanseatic Higher Regional Court with the aim of prohibiting the magazine from reporting. The constitutional complaint filed by Manager Magazin against this was successful.
