features

The trunks are richly branched and form few stolons . They form dense, black-green lawns 0.5 to 1 centimeter in height. The plants are a maximum of one millimeter wide. The leaves are boat-shaped, stick out sparsely; when spread out, they are rounded and square. They are incised on a third to half of the length, so that two triangular, pointed to blunt lobes arise. In the middle of the leaf, the cells are 12 to 14 × 15 to 20 micrometers in size and triangularly thickened in the corners. Each cell contains two oil bodies . The female bracts are larger than the leaves. A perianth is available.

Distribution and locations

The species occurs in Europe and North America. In Germany, it can be found widespread in the mountains, but only rarely at low altitudes. It grows on firm, lime-free soil, over lime only on decalcified earth.
