society

Aphesteguy, brother of Miguel Aphesteguy, who was president of the Wanderers from 1906-07, played between 1906 and 1915 for the Montevideo Wanderers competing in the Primera División . In 1909 the Wanderers named with the Bohemios won the Uruguayan championship. Aphesteguy was used in the central half position. Internationally, with the Wanderes, he won the Copa de Honor "Cusenier" against Quilmes AC from Buenos Aires in 1908 and the Cup Tie Competition against CA San Isidro , also from the Argentine capital, in 1911 .

National team

Martín Aphesteguy was a member of the Uruguayan senior team . From his debut on October 21, 1906 in the Copa Newton to his last appearance on July 18, 1915 in the Copa Premio Honor Uruguayo , he completed 17 international matches, all against Argentina, according to the RSSSF . He did not score an international goal. He was also used in the three unofficial international matches against Argentina on February 25, 1912, April 27, 1913 and September 28, 1913, and in the charity match against the southeastern neighbor on July 13, 1913. There, too, he was denied a hit. Aphesteguy took part with the Celeste in the first unofficial South American Championship in 1910 , sometimes referred to as the Copa Centenario Revolución de Mayo , and took second place there. What was revolutionary about the competition was that in addition to the usual rival Argentina, Chile , a third football nation appeared in South America for the first time, resulting in a real smaller tournament. In 1912 he won the Copa Lipton with Uruguay , and in 1913 the Copa Newton.
