Martín Rojas de Portalrubio

Martín Rojas de Portalrubio (* around 1512 in Toledo , † March 18, 1577 in Rome ) was a Spanish clergyman, conventual chaplain and Vice Chancellor of the Order of Malta and Bishop of Malta .

Life

He came from Portalruvio (today part of Toledo) in Spain. Martín Rojas de Portalrubio was a doctor of law and a priest , he was conventual chaplain of the Order of St. John in Malta . As Vice Chancellor of the order, he represented this 1562–1563 in the third session of the Council of Trent .

Pope Gregory XIII appointed him on November 5, 1572 Bishop of Malta and donated him episcopal ordination . On March 20, 1573, Martín Rojas de Portalrubio was also appointed Inquisitor in Malta . However, the Order did everything in its power to have him recalled from this position and was successful in mid-1574 when the appointment was withdrawn. Although he remained Bishop of Malta, he left the island in 1576 and died in Rome the following year.
