Martha Watson

Martha Watson ( Martha Rae Watson; born August 19, 1946 in Long Beach , California ) is a former American long jumper and sprinter .

In the long jump, she was eliminated from the qualification at the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo , came fourth at the Pan American Games in Winnipeg in 1967 and tenth at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City .

At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, she was fourth in the 4 x 100 meter relay and did not get past the first round in the long jump.

In 1975 she won silver in the long jump and gold in the US 4-by-100-meter relay at the Pan American Games in Mexico City .

At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, she came in seventh place with the US relay and failed in the long jump in the preliminary round.

She was three times in the long jump US champion (1973-1975) and five times US indoor champion (1967, 1972, 1974-1976).

In 1987 she was inducted into the USA Track & Field Hall of Fame .
