The Martifer Group is an originally Portuguese company, today a multinational group with a focus on metal construction and renewable energies , which employs more than 3,000 people worldwide. Martifer SGPS SA, the holding company of the Martifer Group, has been traded on Euronext Lisbon since June 2007 .

Sales amounted to 606 million euros (in 2009), 85 percent of which in the Iberian Peninsula and almost fifteen percent in Central Europe. 55 percent of sales are generated in metal construction, the rest in the field of renewable energies, including wind power and biofuels under the brand name prio .

Together with the Indian company Suzlon Energy , it acquired the majority of the German wind turbine manufacturer REpower AG in 2007 and now holds it together with the French company AREVA under the management of Suzlon.

Martifer is structured as follows: Martifer metal structures (steel structures, aluminum and stainless steel), energy systems (wind energy, biodiesel and research into wave energy), solar energy and RE developer.

The company is the largest on the Iberian Peninsula and also active in Central and Eastern Europe in the metal construction of bridges, sports stadiums, industrial buildings, airport buildings and shopping centers.

In 2007 sales were broken down into the following areas:

  • 296 million euros: Martifer Metallic Construction (metal construction, metal processing, especially steel , aluminum , stainless steel )
  • 114 million euros: Martifer Energy Systems (construction of wind parks, photovoltaic parks and production of components for wind turbines, etc.)
  • 122 million euros: prio (cultivation of oil crops and cereals (mainly in Romania and Portugal), extraction of vegetable oil , production of biodiesel )
  • 82 million euros: Martifer Solar (project planning and operation of wind farms, production of solar panels in Germany, Portugal and Spain, Eastern Europe and photovoltaic systems, expansion into the hydropower business in Portugal)

In November 2010 Martifer announced a joint venture project with the Californian company Silverado Power for photovoltaic deals. The 113 MWp contracts include nine clean energy projects for Southern California near major power lines. Clean energy is provided to thousands of households through a 20-year contract with Southern California Edison (SCE). The business is part of a growing portfolio of projects in excess of 400 MW grid size from Martifer Solar and Silverado Power in development in the United States .

The company was founded in 1990 in Oliveira de Frades , Central Portugal, by the two brothers Carlos Martins and Jorge Martins. The company, which started with 18 employees when it was founded, employed 3,000 people worldwide in 2009. There are subsidiaries in Spain (1999), Poland (2003), Romania (2005), Czech Republic (2005), Slovakia (2005), Germany (2005), Brazil (2006) and Angola (2006).
