career

Martim Silveira, a half-forward or, according to today's interpretation, an attacking midfielder. played in his career mainly for the Botafogo FC from Rio de Janeiro , which after a merger in 1948 became today's Botafogo FR . With Botafogo he was four times master of Rio de Janeiro between 1930 and 1935. At the championships in 1934 and 1935, however, Botafogo entered the football world of Rio, which was once divided by a schism, in the amateurist association FMD , while numerous other clubs organized themselves in the Liga Carioca de Futebol .

From February to December 1933 he played for the Boca Juniors from Buenos Aires , with whom he was runner-up in Argentina. He was the first Brazilian to play for the club.

The player had his first appearance with the Brazilian national team at the Copa Río Branco in 1932. In this and the 1934 World Cup he was captain of the team. At the 1938 World Cup he represented the injured captain Leônidas da Silva in the semi-final against Italy. He played a total of 27 games with the national team, but only six of them were in official international matches. In these he did not score a goal, in the friendlies two.

After his death, he was buried on May 27, 1972 in the São Jõao Batista cemetery in Botafogo in the presence of former teammates and club officials.
