Martin Büchsel

Martin Büchsel (born August 28, 1950 in Neu-Isenburg ) is a German art historian and university professor .

Martin Büchsel studied philosophy , art history and sociology in Frankfurt am Main from 1970 and received his doctorate in 1977 with a dissertation on the epistemological thinking of Immanuel Kant ( the paradox of the category of substance as a relational concept in the ' Critique of Pure Reason ' ). From 1978 to 1982 he devoted himself to studying classical philology . A stay in Rome extended from March 1985 to December 1986 . At the Liebieghaus (Museum for Sculpture ) in Frankfurt he was employed with work contracts from 1987 to 1990, then for 26 months as a research assistant . Martin Büchsel habilitated in 1992 at the University of Freiburg with a research on the medieval sculpture ( The sculpture of the transept of the cathedral of Chartres ). There he then taught as a private lecturer until 1995, interrupted by a guest semester in Bern . After a three-and-a-half-month research stay in Paris financed by the German Research Foundation , he worked as a substitute from the spring of 1995, and then as a full professor at the Chair for European Art History with a focus on the Middle Ages at the Art History Institute of the University of Frankfurt am Main from autumn 1996 .

In his university teaching, Martin Büchsel represents the art of the entire Middle Ages from the beginnings to the epoch border around 1500.
