Martin Ernst from Styx

Martin Ernst von Styx (born December 19, 1759 in Riga , Livonia Gouvernement , † March 13, 1829 ) was a German-Baltic doctor, university professor and rector of the Imperial University of Dorpat .

Life

Martin Ernst von Styx attended the Lyceum in Riga from 1770 to 1779. He then studied medicine in Jena , where he received his doctorate in surgery and medicine in 1782. After visiting Göttingen and Strasbourg , he returned to Russia. From 1783 he worked there in various places as a district doctor and doctor in charge. From 1793 he had his own practice.

In 1800 he became professor of medicine at the newly founded University of Dorpat, where he was also rector from 1813 to 1814. In 1826 he retired.

In 1804 he married Catharina Johanna, an aunt of pastor Bärnhoff zu Riga and had two sons and a daughter with her.
